Patient Stories

"Rita"

Hospital_Pictures_053.jpg

Rita was submitted to Los Caballos Veterinary Hospital on September 12, 2006, after being treated out in the field.  She was only 24 hours old when her owners found her newly born in the herd of cattle that they owned.  When "Rita" was brought into the hospital, she was close to death and needed immediate attention.  She had not nursed since birth, which is vital event in a newborn's life.  Being an orphan, Rita had to be bottle fed every 2 hours and kept on IV fluids and plasma for her survival.  The owners, not being able to afford her treatment, donated her to the Operation Los Caballos program instead of having the newborn calf euthanized.  Rita is now 2 years old and is very healthy and happy.  She is still owned by the hospital and is probably one of the friendliest cows in town.  She continues to live her life her at the hospital as our mascot!

 "Classy"

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

Classy was submitted to Los Caballos Veterinary Hospital on May 2, 2008.  She is a 2 year old thoroughbred filly that was in a trailering accident.  She had one deep laceration on her front left leg and a few other lacerations and scratches.  Unfortunately, the owners were not able to afford the total cost of the treatment that she would need.  She was then donated to Operation Los Caballos.  She has not yet raced and has minimal ground training. Classy has made a full recovery.  She is a very sweet mare and an exceptional athlete. She is still apart of the Los Caballos family until she is placed in a loving home.

"TinkerBell"

TinkerBell was submitted to Los Caballos Veterinary Hospital on June 16, 2008 after being treated in the field for a dystocia. Due to the severity of the dystocia, Tinkerbell needed to come into the hospital for further treatment.  The owner could not afford to continue the treatment; therefore she donated the 2yr old filly to LCVH, rather than having her euthanized. TinkerBell is a very sweet, loving filly, and has made a full recovery. Tinkerbell was adopted by Drs. Clint and Anita Dennison for their little girls.

"Rudolph"

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

Rudolph was presented to the hospital in June, 2007 along with his younger brother.  "Rudolph was 4 weeks old and his brother was 3 weeks old.  Both calves were very sick and needed treatment that would be more than just a quick fix.  Unfortunately, Rudolph's brother did not make it through his illness battle, but Rudolph did pull through.  It was a very long and tuff recovery, which the owner's could not afford.  After a month of continuous medication and months of bottle feeding, Rudolph has become the little character that he is today. He is happy, healthy, and growing like crazy!

"Honey"

Honey was donated to Operation Los Caballos due to a small injury on her elbow. She is a 10yr old Thoroughbred mare that was brought in for the treatment of a wound she acquired while the owners were away. The owners could not afford the cost of the treatment that she would need, so instead of euthanasia she became apart of the family. Honey has had a full recovery with no effects of her previous injuries.
